Join Us for a JDRF Walk – Get Involved

July 31, 2024 by CM Staff

We know you want to make a cure a reality too—and we can’t wait for you to join us!

JDRF One Walk has one goal: to create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D). We know you want to make a cure a reality too—and we can’t wait for you to join us!

When you participate in your local JDRF One Walk, the money you raise supports life–changing breakthroughs that give hope to everyone impacted by this disease. And, you’ll have a great time doing it! That’s because you’ll walk with a committed community that is passionate about doing whatever it takes to help turn Type One into Type None.

Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly. It has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle—and it’s serious and stressful to manage. There is nothing you can do to prevent T1D and there is currently no cure.

But there is something you can do to help. Please register to walk with us today. We can’t do it without you.

Nicholas would like you to join us this year for a walk that makes a difference!

Protect Diabetes Prevention Funding in New York

March 30, 2018 by CM Staff

New York - Keep Funding for DiabetesMore than two million New Yorkers have diabetes, a leading cause of death in our state.

State resources to fight type 2 diabetes and obesity are very limited, especially when considering the fiscal impact of diabetes on our state – $15.8 billion in medical costs alone!

Now, legislators want to reduce critical diabetes and obesity funding!

We stand with the American Diabetes Association in urging our legislators to support at least $5,970,000 in funding specifically allocated for our state’s type 2 diabetes/obesity line item.

Combining these funds with other disease-related funding and then reducing the state’s appropriation for these programs by 20% is currently being proposed.

2 million New Yorkers already have diabetes. Several million more people have prediabetes, and are at increased risk for developing type 2 diabetes.

This disease is a leading cause of death in New York and is responsible for $15.8 billion in annual medical costs and another $5.8 billion in lost productivity in our state.

While the societal toll is staggering, the human cost is measured in blindness, amputation, stroke, and heart and kidney disease.

Tell our legislators to protect programs that prevent diabetes!

Ask Congress to Ensure Continuous Glucose Monitor (CGM) Coverage by Medicare

September 14, 2015 by CM Staff

Congress has returned to Capitol Hill and gaveled in their legislative session for the fall. It’s the perfect time for your Members of Congress to hear your voice.

Please help to secure greater access to type 1 diabetes therapies by adding your name to those advocating for continuous glucose monitor (CGM) coverage by Medicare.

Make a difference today:

  • Email your Senators. This form asks your Senators to co-sponsor S. 804, the ‘Medicare CGM Access Act.’
  • Email your Representative. A form that asks your Representative to co-sponsor H.R. 1427, an identical House companion bill.

Twenty-eight Members of the Senate and 138 Members of the House of Representatives are currently signed-on in support of bipartisan legislation to provide CGM coverage for seniors on Medicare.

This legislation isn’t just for our seniors however – it will in fact benefit everyone – by helping to pave the way for reimbursement of next-generational artificial pancreas technologies when made available.

We need to maintain our strong support for the Medicare CGM Access Act and take action before thousands of Americans are potentially denied access to CGMs.

To learn more about the issue, please visit the JDRF CGM page — also share this information with family and friends.

Do Good. Feel Good. Step Out for Diabetes. Find a Walk Near You.

July 17, 2015 by CM Staff

Do Good. Feel Good. Step Out!

Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes is the ADA’s signature fundraising walk. The event has been taking place for more than 20 years and has raised more than $200,000,000 to Stop Diabetes!

Walk day is a huge celebration of the fundraising efforts YOU put into this event and an amazing experience. Step Out is filled with music, food, kids activities, local entertainment and most importantly, the company of those who truly understand the impact of diabetes.

And this year is more special than ever because it’s the 75th Anniversary of the American Diabetes Association. No better time than now to join in celebrating 75 years of continuous progress working to improve the lives of people with diabetes through research, advocacy and education
